2001 Doctorate (PhD): The dissertation is entitled ‘The impact of a discourse-based teacher counselling model in training language teachers for outcomes-based education.’ University of the Free State.
1986 Higher Diploma in Education – UCT. Twamley Scholarship for the Best Student in the Faculty of Education.
1985 Completed Master’s Dissertation covering the post-war British novel. University of the Free State.
1975 – 1978 BA and BA Hons (English) – University of the Free State
2012 SETA-Accredited Assessor (Damelin, Bloemfontein).

These are only a few of numerous courses and projects that Dr de Villiers has completed in different countries across the world and locally. She has covered many aspects of education, with her accumulated knowledge and skills.

August 2013 Training of teachers in the Language of Learning and Teaching for UNICEF in collaboration with the Mpumalanga Department of Education
June 2013 Training of teachers in Entrepreneurship Education, Surabaya, Indonesia. (ILO, Indonesia)
November 2012 Project Manager of the team that conducted a case study on English learning and teaching in Guinea (West Africa) where she also conducted field work.
January 2012 and ongoing Consultant for the International Labour Organization’s training and materials design project, startUP&go, in South Africa, Tanzania and Indonesia.
June – December (the present) Managing Director and trainer, Jika Training and Communication.
2010 – 2011 National co-ordinator of SAGE (Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship), an international organisation which promotes the development of teenage entrepreneurship.

2004 – 2005 Teacher trainer. Recorded 20 teacher trainees in pre- and post intervention class teaching in preparation for her PhD.
2000 – 2003 Presented various courses in report writing, oral communication in English, Afrikaans and Sesotho as well as team building and personnel development courses to the corporate sector.
1996 – 2000 Trained teachers in the implementation of outcomes-based education – road trips covered all districts of the Free State and also included all other provinces.
Dr de Villiers has taught in pre-primary, primary schools, secondary schools and at university level. This spectrum makes her a specialist in the field of education and training. The scope of this summary leaves out a great deal of what she has done in and for education in the province, the country, and internationally.
